What is a community land trust? Essentially, it is a way for residents to come together to own land in their neighborhoods, and to create permanent affordability of housing in their areas.

There are a number across the U.S., but only one in NYC (Manhattan). Our guests, Melanie Berkowitz, Project Associate at the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board, and Christie Peale, Executive Director of the Center for New York City Neighborhoods, join us to talk why CLTs can be beneficial. David Quart, Deputy Commissioner of Strategy, Research and Communications at NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development joins as well to tell us how community land trusts might fit into the city’s ambitious housing plan.
